New Delhi, Jan.28, (ANI): National Commissions for Women (NCW) chairperson Mamta Sharma on Tuesday wrote letter to the Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and President Pranab Mukherjee demanding suspension of Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti.
"We had asked for the Action Taken Report from Delhi Police, and yesterday we received the report. In the report there are many sections which are against Somnath Bharti. There are serious allegations against him which are dangerous for democratic structure," Sharma said.
"When the State Commission had summoned him, he refused to appear before them. We thought that instead of summoning him again, we should write letter to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and the President demanding his suspension," she added.
Refuting Bharti's allegations that Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) is a politically motivated body, Sharma said these state bodies are institutional bodies and have no political affiliations.
"If he says this, then he is wrong. He should have knowledge that these are statutory bodies and it has nothing to do with political parties," she said.
"We have taken action against all those who have misbehaved with women irrespective of which political party they belong to," she added.
Bharti and his supporters have been accused of illegally detaining Ugandan women and forcing them to undergo medical tests.
Bharati alleged that a sex trade and drug peddling racket was flourishing in the locality with the help of foreign nationals.
He had demanded that the police should take action against the offenders. (ANI)
