The family court has advised young couples to maintain a balance between their personal lives and their careers, so they fulfill the responsibilities they have assumed through marriage.
“Young couples should maintain a balance between career and personal life. This is the need of the hour in a world where the priorities of the young generation has changed,” said judge SN Rukme. The judge pointed out that many matrimonial disputes arose within a month of marriage and it was usually found that one of the spouses gave priority to the career and not to the relationship.
The judge made this observation while granting a woman divorce on the grounds of cruelty and desertion last week.
The couple were married in November 2008 and the husband moved to the US on his job within just 20 days of the marriage. According to the petition, the man remained aloof and neglected the wife.
He returned to India after he lost his job, but went back to the US within a few days. In December 2009, he called the wife and asked for a divorce.
The court issued notice to the husband to appear in the matter and submit an affidavit replying to the divorce petition. However, he did not appear and the hearing was conducted ex-parte.
“The facts of the case and nature of evidence appear to be natural. There is nothing to disbelieve the evidence of the wife. The dream of a happy married life was broken within a short time. The evidence shows that the wife was never at fault. The husband’s behaviour was not only irresponsible but also inhuman,” the court said.
The judge remarked, “Marital ties are not so insignificant that one can break them as per his/her own wishes/whims. Marriage casts rights and liabilities on the spouse. It has many consequences regarding with regard to property, children, etc. Deprivation of conjugal bliss itself amounts to cruelty. The husband’s conduct wasmainly responsible for this situation. Thus all these facts are sufficient to constitute cruelty and desertion.”
