SURAT: Police, who are carrying out investigations into the rape and torture complaint filed by a 38-year-old woman with Mahidharpura police station here on Saturday, looked perplexed after questioning her husband. The 58-year-old husband of the woman has told police that his wife had got married to another man according to Islamic law.
The woman, who is a resident of the city, in her complaint had alleged that she was tortured by her husband Fateh Karim Sindha. She claimed that in November 2013 he had sold her to another man, who along with his friend took her to Mumbai. She alleged that was raped by the two men in a hotel from November 20 to 23.
Sindha informed police that he and the complainant were married, but due to marital discord between them, they took divorce according to Islamic law. He claimed that he and his former wife wanted to remarry, but for that she had to marry another man, said V S Sarvaiya, police inspector, Mahidharpura police station.
