Police nab Indian national faking his own abduction

AMAR KHADKA
ITAHARI, Feb 18: Police on Tuesday arrested an Indian national on the charge of concocting a plan of his own abduction, allegedly to get rid of his wife.

Ashok Maheta, 28, of Supaul in India, who has been living at Duhabi-4 in Sunsari for many years, was arrested on the charge of faking his abduction.

The police have also rounded up Mehata´s cousins, Pankaj Mehata, 24, and Sanjaya Mehata,25, of Paschim Kusaha VDC -1 for their collusion in his made-up plan.
Pankaj was working as a teacher at the Inaruwa-based Janak Srimit Boarding School.

In course of the investigation, the police found that Ashok himself concocted the fake abduction plan and executed it with the help of his cousins on Monday night.
According to the police, Mehata has told them that he wanted to run away his wife.

Before pleading guilty, Mehata told the police that he was whisked away at gunpoint by two youngsters who had come on a bike while he and his friend Mahesh Chaudhary had gone out for an evening stroll on Sunday.

Mahesh, who was oblivious of Mehta´s plan, completely believed the incident that unfolded before his eyes and reported it to the police.
The police then sprang into action, and arrested Sanjay and Pankaj, who had posed as abductors, from Inaruwa-7. Ashok was also found there.

Even the police officers involved in the case were surprised to hear from Pankaj and Sanjaya that they had actually abducted Ashok on his request.
“He requested us to orchestrate his abduction saying that he wanted to remain aloof from his wife for some days,” said the arrested duo before police.

Conceding his crime, Ashok said he staged his own abduction because he wanted to get rid of his wife as his relatives and friends told him that “her character was not good”.
