Metro News/ Hyderabad :
The Save Indian Family Foundation demanded the government on Saturday to repeal dowry harassment act to protect the family system in the country.
At a dharna, leaders of the foundation wanted that anti-male laws should be repealed so that the traditional Indian family system could be continued without breakages.
They wanted the government to put an end to laws like IPC 498A (dowry law), Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act and Child Custody Act, which they said were misandric and anti-male. They said that such laws were being used by some women to extort money from their husbands. P Rukma Chary, one of the organisers, said that such laws go against the gender equality that was guaranteed in the Indian constitution.
He felt that the Marriage Amendment Draft, 2010 would encourage divorce for women and would therefore increase the divorce rate. SIFF also felt that the interests of the children were not taken into consideration during a divorce.
The organization said that the children need both the mother and father to have a healthy childhood.
